Mission Statement

NorthWoods Strings is a non-profit organization dedicated to Building a Musical Community by providing individual string instrument lessons, ensembles, and performance opportunities on the violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar, banjo, ukulele and mandolin to children and adults in rural Northwestern Wisconsin.

Dayle Quigley – Co-founder of NWS

Dayle began playing the violin as an adult and founded NorthWoods Strings in the fall of 2004 as a means to introduce group playing to her private violin students. In 2009 she received the Marvin Rabin Award for Philanthropic Achievement by the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra. She had no idea the NorthWoods Strings program would grow so rapidly. In her spare time, she is an ER physician and children’s book author.

Randy Sabien – Co-founder of NWS

Randy began playing the violin at the age of 9 and although he started out with classical violin lessons, he quickly supplemented his education with rock and roll, country, folk, bluegrass, blues, and jazz. He not only attended the Berklee School of Music in Boston but also founded and chaired their new jazz string department at the age of 21. Randy was a former teacher at McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, Minnesota. Now he spends his time touring with his own band and other artists as well as teaching jazz to school groups.
