Flash Mob (April 2nd)
What a great time we had at the Northern Lakes Co-op IGA grocery store. The store could not have been more welcoming and the patrons more appreciative. We did one of our songs from our upcoming community dance - we played, danced and rolled. Check out the youtube video.
Barley Jacks Workshop and Performance
If you don't know the name of Brian Wicklund, you ought to. He is an amazing fiddler, the author of the American Fiddle Method books, and a pied piper of children. Brian and his band (including our good friend and bass teacher Kevin Rowe) came to Hayward to bless our children with a workshop and then a performance at the Park Theater. Not only did the students get to spend time with Brian and Kevin, they got to perform on stage with the band. It was outstanding.
Red Cedar Orchestra Fall Performance
Library Fundraiser (October 17th)
Naomi Haugen and her Maple students pulled off another great performance for the Hayward Community Library Fundraiser. Providing music for an hour while patrons perused the books for sale, the maple students showed how far they have come since starting on their instruments just last year. The maple students were joined by many of the Ebony and Pernambuco students and with a combination of solo and group numbers the time flew past.
McCormick House (September 23rd)
The 3rd Annual Wine Gala Fundraiser went off without a hitch on Sunday September 23rd. Sponsored once again by MarketPlace Foods, Johnson Bank, and the McCormick House. There were concerns about the weather - cold temperatures and possible rain - but once again our luck held out and we had sunny warm weather (as long as you didn't wear a sleeveless sundress) from start to finish. Kevin McMullin, Naomi Haugen, and Diane Stone spearheaded the event and their students brought nothing but rave reviews from the audience. Of course the hors d'ouerves, chocolates, and wine were once again top notch. Thanks go out to our sponsors, parents, students, and attendees for making this a huge success.
Fall Festival Huge Success (September 22nd)
On Saturday, September 22nd, NWS students took to the main stage at the Hayward Fall Festival. For an hour, time stood still as over 15 students wow'd the audience with group and individual numbers. It was cold and it was rainy but...that didn't stop this bright sunny group of kids. A hearty thank you goes out to all the students who volunteered their time and talents to this community event.
